Setting Up a Tanning Salon

Plan your tanning salon: choose commercial sunbeds, compare buying and hire, prepare your premises and organise the day-to-day running of your business.

Start with the salon you want to run

Opening a tanning salon or adding sunbeds to an existing business starts with a plan for your customers, premises and everyday operation. Choose equipment alongside the room layout and running costs, rather than choosing a model and hoping it fits.

Choose your equipment and buying route

Consider the experience your customers want, the space available and how staff will clean and maintain each unit. Stand-up and lay-down equipment offer different ways to use a sunbed; neither type is automatically the right choice for every salon.

Compare stand-up and lay-down sunbeds

Compare the full buying or hire proposal, including the equipment, premises work, delivery and installation arrangements, and the support included. Ask which models and configurations are available for your salon before committing.

Prepare the premises before the layout is fixed

Bring a measured room plan and photographs to the equipment discussion. Include ceiling height, access from the delivery point, doors, stairs and any fixed obstructions. Space around the equipment matters as well as the dimensions of the unit itself.

Have the proposed equipment and ventilation arrangements assessed together. Ask a qualified electrician to assess the supply for the selected configuration and other equipment in the salon. Avoid building cubicles around an assumed minimum room size.

Use the sunbed room requirements guide

Plan the everyday operation

  • Check premises permissions, operating requirements and insurance with the relevant local authority, landlord and insurer before opening.
  • Organise staff training, customer suitability checks and session procedures using current professional guidance and the equipment instructions.
  • Set aside time and space for cleaning, routine maintenance and engineer access.
  • Plan supplies, laundry, cleaning products and stock storage alongside reception and customer privacy.
  • Include premises work, staffing, maintenance and consumables in your operating budget; equipment alone is not the whole cost.

Build your preparation checklist

Use the first-sunbed checklist to gather the information for your equipment enquiry. For detailed measurements and premises questions, follow the room requirements guide.

Talk through your salon plan

Tell us whether you are opening, expanding or replacing equipment, which models interest you and what you know about the premises. We can discuss equipment supplied by Cyrano and what needs confirming before an installation is agreed. You do not need a trade account to send an equipment enquiry.
