Sunbed acrylic care: five checks for your salon
Build a practical acrylic care routine around your sunbed manual, approved cleaning products and checks for damage.
Your acrylic care routine should follow the operating manual for your exact sunbed. These five checks help organise that routine; they do not replace model-specific instructions or provide removal and fitting steps.
1. Confirm your cleaning product
Use a cleaner and disinfectant approved for your equipment and acrylic. Check both the manufacturer’s instructions and the product label before use, including any required dilution and contact time. Avoid substituting household or glass cleaners unless the equipment manufacturer explicitly approves them.
2. Clean and sanitise between customers
HSE recommends cleaning and sanitising tanning equipment between customers. Make this a consistent staff routine using the approved method for your model. Check that the surface is ready for the next customer in accordance with the cleaner and equipment instructions.
3. Check the surface for damage
Include the acrylic in your regular equipment checks. If you see damage or suspect a fault, take the sunbed out of use and ask for model-specific advice before it is used again. Cleaning cannot substitute for assessing a damaged panel.
4. Follow the maintenance schedule
Use the manufacturer’s schedule for inspection, internal cleaning and replacement. Acrylic care and replacement intervals vary by equipment; there is no universal number of years that proves a panel remains suitable. Internal access needs the correct instructions and suitably trained people.
5. Keep a clear handover record
Record checks, cleaning products, reported damage and any replacement work. Make sure staff know where to find the manual and who to contact when something needs attention. Keep the full model and serial number with your equipment records.
